Interrogating Caribbean Masculinities: Theoretical and Empirical Analyses
Rhoda E. Reddock
Interrogating Caribbean Masculinities is an anthology of new
Caribbean scholarship on masculinities. The content reflects a range of
disciplinary approaches, including anthropology, history, international
relations, literary criticism and art and installation. Special
attention is paid to the interaction of power and sexuality in the
construction of masculine identities. To understand how men express and
exert power, it is necessary to include the analysis of power in the
context of structural relationships: the class system, political and
economic inequalities, racism, colonialism, homophobia, and other
systems of oppression and exclusion. The book is of interest for those
teaching masculinity studies, women and gender studies, and for policy
makers interested in gender relations in the Caribbean and the Caribbean
diaspora.
